Glass test tubes with a outter diameter of 16mm or 18mm and a length of 160mm with a thick wall of high quality glass.

They provide a good environment for ants to nest and raise their brood.

Here are some of the benefits of using glass test tubes for ant keeping:

  • They are transparent, so you can easily observe your ants.
  • They are easy to clean and disinfect.

At first, the queen will appreciate having only a small, secure space in which to lay her eggs.

A test tube is perhaps the most practical object for preparing the start of her colony. Place two to three centimetres of water in the bottom of the tube and pack it down with a cotton ball so that the water stays at the bottom but the cotton remains moist.

Then place your queen in the test tube and close it with another cotton plug, this time less tightly packed, so that the air can pass through but the queen can't escape.

  • Make sure to clean and disinfect the test tubes before using them.
  • Use filtered or distilled water, as tap water may contain minerals that are harmful to ants.
  • Make sure that the cotton ball or plug is not too tight, as this can restrict the airflow in the test tube.
  • You can also add a small amount of soil or sand to the bottom of the test tube. This will give the ants a place to dig and burrow. This can be necessary for some ant species
  • Place the test tubes in a warm location, out of direct sunlight.

With proper care, your ants will thrive in their glass test tube nest.
